Career Opportunity : Senior Analyst (SA)
The Center for IT Leadership (CITL) at Partners HealthCare System, a nonprofit organization based in Boston, MA, is initiating a search for a Senior Analyst (SA) to work in their Charlestown, MA office.
CITL was chartered in 2002 by Partners HealthCare System as a research organization dedicated to examining the value of information technology (IT) in health care. Initiatives at CITL include modeling the adoption and impact of emerging health care information technologies. CITL largely conducts research using academic and industry approaches to value-based technology assessment, and publishes its research findings in both peer-reviewed and general trade literature. CITL also participates in local, state, and federal health care IT adoption initiatives, using our research findings to assist decision-makers across the US to develop policies that support and promote the appropriate use of IT in health care.
As a primary lead for a team performing health care IT value analyses, the SA will be responsible for all phases of a research project, including topic development, funding solicitation, project scoping, research and analysis. The SA will also be involved in dissemination of our results, through publication and presentation of the findings.
Ideal candidates will have an advanced degree (MD, PhD, RN) and substantial experience in medical informatics and health services research. CITL will also consider individuals with strong health care research experience holding a Masters degree. Successful candidates will also possess excellent analytic, quantitative, writing and presentation skills.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direction regarding the creation of select research topics.
- Lead the research process whereby new ideas are generated and projects are executed that point the direction for the future value and benefits of health care information technology.
- Develop plans for assessing the information technologies selected for study, drawing on own expertise and input from the CITL Advisory Board, Executive Committee, and Expert Panels.
- Implement assessment plans. Assessments will include, but are not limited to, reviews of academic literature, market scans, interviews of experts and industry leader, cost benefit analysis, and identification of best practices.
- Synthesize results, formulate conclusions, lead writing and be primary participant in the presentation of final published reports.
- Plan, manage and oversee projects to facilitate timely and quality results. Establish a positive project team environment through leadership and mentoring.
- Collaborate with other research analysts to complete literature reviews, expert interviews and other research tasks as appropriate.
- Engage in consulting for delivery systems, corporate sponsors and other entities interested in CITL’s work.
- Establish and promote collaborative relationships between CITL, other Partner’s departments and areas outside Partners. Foster relationships for the purposes of research collaboration and joint studies.
- Lead other CITL research and evaluation activities by designing experimental studies, collecting and analyzing research data and presenting results. Develop techniques, instruments and computer-based models for technology evaluation.
- Keep key constituencies informed of the latest developments and innovations in health care IT.
Qualifications
- Masters or PhD degree in health care-related field. Advanced degree (MD, PhD, RN) preferred.
- Training in medical informatics through fellowship, advanced degree program or comparable experience.
- Experience with large, complex research projects. Training in project management a plus.
- Evidence of contribution to medical informatics or health care IT literature through publications or presentations.
- Experience in IT management, systems implementation or assessment a plus.

- Possesses excellent analytical, communications, writing and presentation skills.
- Has the aptitude to comprehensively analyze health care’s evolving information and communications technology infrastructure.
- Possesses ability to work closely with internal and external subject matter experts who will assist in the investigation and analysis of CITL research topics.
- Possesses excellent team building skills and is able to portray a unified vision of the research to successfully motivate a project team.
- Shows a proven ability to plan and manage a project – its tasks, team members, other resources and timeline – and to prioritize and delegate accordingly.
- Has ability to multitask, and be flexible, versatile and adaptable in day-to-day activities.
Working Conditions
Academic and industry settings with a standard professional office environment; flexibility in schedule required.
Supervisory Responsibility
Management, mentoring and evaluation of one to three research analysts per project requirements
Fiscal Responsibility
Indicate financial “scope” information, (i.e., size of budge, volume, revenue, etc.)
Development and management of research budgets per project requirements.
